San Diego County has declared a local and public health emergency in response to COVID-19, the illness caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus. It is important for our community to be vigilant in preventing the spread of communicable illness.
Holly Drive Leadership Academy School and office is closed. Classes will be moving online. Distance Learning is new for all of us and we are all learners in this process. Many educators may be entering into new learning as we shift to teaching students in an online setting. Please be patient. These are unprecedented times which require us to be innovative, and we appreciate your patience as we all rise to meet new challenges together. Academic instruction will formally resume in April as part of the Holly Drive Leadership Academy’s Distance Learning Plan.

COVID-19 Operations Written Report
HDLA will collect data from families via a technology survey on our website, emails and phone calls in order to identify families in need of Internet access and/or a keyboard-enabled device. HDLA will distribute HDLA owned Chrome books and laptops to families without a computer in the home. Families will be asked to sign the computers out and are expected to return the computers on June 5, 2020 to Holly Drive Leadership Academy campus. Internet access will be connected to local service providers offering low-cost or free service. For WIFI & Internet Access information visit http://www.internetforallnow.org/ for up-to-date information from San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE).
Individual Distance Learning Plans (IDLPs) will be created to ensure that all students with special needs receive services to the greatest extent possible while participating in distance learning. Case managers will conduct weekly check ins with each of their students and every two to three weeks the Individual Distance Learning Plans will be reviewed and updated as appropriate. Ed specialists and related service providers will work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide support and accommodations needed for each student to meet current IEP goals and have support to access the online curriculum.
At the core of our Distance Learning plan is connectedness, academic growth, routine, equity, emotional health and happiness. Teachers will have an opportunity for students to meet two to three times a week via online classes on Zoom to provide whole language instruction. Attendance will be taken in order to provide wellness checks and to help us respond to any needs or challenges a family could be facing. Assignments are placed on California i-Ready and Achieve3000 for grading purposes. This plan will include a blend of screen time and off screen time learning. Additionally, students can receive extra credit points for completing assignments in Math-Whizz and Happy Numbers. Below is our Teacher led Online Instruction schedule. These sessions are taught by the classroom teacher on Zoom.
Please let us know if you haven't received the Zoom ID and password info via email.

Homework as well as the username and passwords for the online platforms have been mailed out.
Teachers and other support staff will create regular daily routines within teams and grade levels for students to connect with staff and each other via online platforms. Teachers will also record attendance to the extent possible and inform administrators about absent or non-communicative students and families. School staff will continue to engage in innovative, fun collaborative lessons with colleagues.
Instructional Time should be 2.5 hours daily of asynchronous activities and generally 30 minutes of synchronous learning/connection experiences daily. Additional individual and small group check-ins with special educational teams for students with special education needs.
Please find more information below.
Should you have a need that is not addressed in this plan, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or our school administrator, Alysia Smith, directly. We care and truly want to help meet any need we can.
San Diego Unified Food and Nutrition Services will be conducting a drive thru /walk-up distribution of daily prepared meals, free of charge.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) no longer requires children to be present at the school sites for pick-up, but a student ID and/or photo of the child/children will need to be shown during food pick-up.
Meal distribution times for all locations will be from Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Starting the week of April 20, the district will launch the “7 Meals in 5 Days Plan,” which expands grab-and-go meal distribution to help cover student nutrition needs over weekends. The district will distribute one extra breakfast and one extra lunch on each Thursday and Friday of the week. That allows each child to receive two breakfasts and two lunches on these days.
The first day of weekend lunch distribution will be Thursday, April 23. On Thursday, April 30, the district will add breakfast, along with lunch, to the weekend meal distribution.
